I always enjoy Star Trek / 2001: A Space Odyssey mashups! The original even has a dish halfway down the long spine of the ship.
I would have put the shuttle bay right where the main deflector is here, but there is a conflict between function and form in doing that.
I enjoy imagining that the power plant and warp drive system of a star ship is powerful and hazardous. In canon ships, this is only mentioned sparingly with warp core breaches and ejections, but they seem to build their ships around the core anyway. I like this non-cannon design where the dangerous bits are kept far away from as many people as possible. It makes the drive system feel more momentous and awesome in the traditional sense of the word.
